Introduction

‘Maintaining UKCS Exploration and Appraisal activity, making the most of the UK’s own energy resources in support of the transition towards a net zero carbon future and beyond’

The Exploration Task Force (XTF) is a joint industry and regulatory organisation focused on supporting UK exploration and appraisal activity, making the most of the UK’s own energy resources in support of the transition to a net zero carbon future and beyond.

The North Sea Transition Deal, signed between the UK Government and industry, sets out the framework for the re-invention of the UK Continental Shelf (UKCS) as an integrated energy supply and carbon storage industry. This will enable the UKCS to meet up to 60% of the UK’s net zero abatement needs

UK Exploration and appraisal has a vital role to play in this journey to net zero through:

  • supporting a sustainable low carbon transition by identifying and accessing lower emissions domestic hydrocarbon supply
  • minimising higher emission and economically erosive imports that are currently required to meet UK demand
  • maintaining security of supply and limiting the economic and societal damage of price volatility by ensuring a dependable and diverse domestic energy supply
  • enabling the accelerated deployment of low carbon industries such as Carbon Capture and Storage and Hydrogen production through capital, skills and technology transfer

Our success is built on strong collaboration with the North Sea Transition Authority (NSTA) and a broad range of industry, academic and policy-focused stakeholders.

We invite you to work with us and play an important role in helping to deliver a sustainable transition to net zero.
